OUR STORY…

It all began when several members of The Table KC, a community partner organization for Santa Fe Trail Middle School in Olathe, KS, decided to collect spare change to help students who couldn’t afford lunch. But that jar of quarters and dimes did more than change hunger; it launched a movement.

Leaders asked, “How can we make this relationship with the community bi-directional? How might the students give back?”

Local helping met in assembly with students from each school to share about their work with issues such as homelessness, food insecurity, single parent challenges, etc. Students were then challenged to form groups and imagine ways in which they could make a difference. Five Olathe middle schools currently participate in Olathe Students Care. Eventually we plan to take the initiative to the high school and elementary school levels.
